The Velocity Evolving Artist Program is designed to give selected dancers an opportunity to continue developing their technique beyond the Regional weekend through focused instruction, individual assignments, and personalized feedback from Velocity faculty.

Evolving Artist scholarships are offered in Ballet and Tap. Each program is created to help dancers strengthen their foundation, apply corrections, and demonstrate growth within their selected style while continuing to train with the teachers who support them at their home studio.

HOW THE PROGRAM WORKS

Dancers who receive an Evolving Artist scholarship will be sent five prerecorded lessons taught by the designated Velocity faculty member for their style.

Participants should take their time with each lesson and focus on understanding the technique, exercises, and corrections being presented. Dancers are encouraged to ask their studio directors and teachers for support when needed.

At the end of each lesson, the faculty member will provide an assignment for the dancer to complete. Once the dancer feels confident in all five assignments, the dancer must film each assignment and submit all five videos together by the deadline provided in the program email.

Videos should not be submitted individually unless otherwise instructed.

PERSONALIZED FACULTY FEEDBACK

After the completed assignments are submitted, the Velocity faculty member will review the dancer’s work and provide personalized feedback.

This gives each participant the opportunity to receive additional guidance directly from the faculty member leading the program and better understand where they have improved and what they should continue working toward.

THE CHOREOGRAPHY PHASE

After reviewing the five submitted assignments, the faculty member will determine whether the dancer is ready to move forward to the choreography portion of the program.

Dancers selected to continue will receive:

  • Personalized feedback on their lesson assignments
  • A choreography video for their selected style
  • A new deadline for learning, filming, and submitting the choreography

Receiving an Evolving Artist scholarship does not automatically guarantee advancement to the choreography phase. Advancement is based on the dancer’s completion of the lessons, application of corrections, technical development, and readiness for the next stage of the program.

YEAR-LONG TOUR SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITY

After the choreography submissions have been reviewed, Velocity faculty will select dancers who successfully completed the Evolving Artist Program and demonstrated meaningful improvement in Ballet or Tap.

Selected dancers will receive a Velocity Year-Long Tour Scholarship for the following season.

Recipients of the Year-Long Tour Scholarship may attend Velocity Regional convention workshops tuition-free for up to one year from the date the scholarship is awarded.

The Year-Long Tour Scholarship is not automatically awarded to every Evolving Artist participant. Selection is based on the dancer’s commitment to the full process, completion of all assignments, responsiveness to feedback, growth, and demonstrated improvement in the selected style.

SUPPORTING THE HOME STUDIO

The Evolving Artist Program is intended to complement, not replace, a dancer’s regular training at their home studio.

Dancers are encouraged to involve their studio directors and teachers throughout the process. The guidance, corrections, and foundation dancers receive from their home studio remain an important part of their development and success within the program.

PROGRAM DEADLINES

Each Evolving Artist recipient will receive an email containing:

  • The link to the five program lessons
  • Assignment instructions
  • The designated submission email address
  • The deadline for submitting all five lesson assignments
  • The choreography deadline, when applicable

All assignments must be submitted in the format and by the deadline listed in the participant’s email. Late or incomplete submissions may not be reviewed and may make the dancer ineligible to continue in the program or be considered for the Year-Long Tour Scholarship.

ANNOUNCEMENT OF RECIPIENTS

Velocity will notify and announce the dancers selected to receive the Year-Long Tour Scholarship after the conclusion of the Season Finale.

Participants should not assume that advancement to the choreography phase confirms receipt of the scholarship. Final selections are made after all program submissions have been reviewed.

  • Be registered as full-weekend convention participants

  • Participate in the scholarship audition for their correct age division
  • Wear their assigned dancer number
  • Follow all audition and event procedures

Dancers who take regular convention classes in another approved ballroom must return to their correct age division for the scholarship audition.

One-day dancers are not eligible to participate in scholarship auditions or receive any scholarships, including class scholarships.

Independent dancers may receive class scholarships but are not eligible for audition-based Velocity scholarships.

Scholarships must be redeemed through the same studio account under which they were originally awarded.

If a dancer changes studios or begins attending as an Independent dancer, the dancer’s former studio must email Velocity from the studio’s official account email address and provide written permission releasing the scholarship.

Without written permission from the original studio, the scholarship cannot be transferred or redeemed through another studio account.

Studios are responsible for applying all scholarships within the online registration system before the applicable registration and payment deadline.

Refunds and credits will not be issued for scholarships that were not applied correctly or were not redeemed within the required timeframe.

A dancer may receive each scholarship type only once during a season. A dancer who has already received a particular scholarship may still be considered for a different scholarship or a higher MVA placement.

Scholarships have no cash value and may not be sold, exchanged, or transferred to another dancer.

Any unused portion of a scholarship will not be refunded, credited, or transferred unless the scholarship terms specifically state otherwise.

Scholarships are announced and distributed during the applicable Sunday scholarship presentation.

Petite and Mini scholarships are presented immediately following their final Sunday classes.

Junior, Pre-Teen, Teen, and Senior scholarships are presented during theSHOW.

Dancers and studios are responsible for collecting all scholarship materials before leaving the event. Unclaimed scholarships will not be mailed after the Regional weekend.
